How measurement works
Four measurements, seven shapes
Face shape isn't one feature — it's the relationship between four distances. The face shape detector maps 478 facial landmarks in your photo's real pixels, then compares the ratios between these measurements.

Face length
From the top of the forehead to the bottom of the chin. Compared against cheekbone width, this is the strongest single signal — it separates oval and oblong faces from round and square ones.

Cheekbone width
The widest point across the cheekbones. When this is clearly the widest part of your face, you're in oval, round, or diamond territory — the jaw then decides which one.

Forehead width
Across the upper face at the temples. A forehead that is clearly the widest point points toward a heart shape; a narrow forehead with wide cheekbones suggests diamond.

Jawline width
Across the jaw angles. A jaw that matches the cheekbones reads square; a jaw that is the widest point reads triangle; a strongly tapered jaw with a pointed chin reads heart.
Why ratios, not absolutes: a wide jaw means nothing without context. Every measurement is expressed relative to your cheekbone width, so the result stays the same whether the photo is big or small, near or far.
